Complete Dose Calculation Guide

Correct dose calculation is essential to ensure treatment effectiveness, avoid overdoses, and protect the environment. FitoCalc helps you perform these calculations quickly, simply, and consistently. However, remember that the label and legislation are always the main references.

1. Fundamental concepts

• Dose per hectare (L/ha or kg/ha): amount of product to be applied to 1 hectare. • Spray volume (L/ha): water + product to be distributed per hectare. • Concentration (mL/L or %): ratio between product and water. • Area to be treated: can be given in m² or ha (1 ha = 10,000 m²). • Tank capacity: total volume of the sprayer.

2. Calculation of the dose per area (L/ha or kg/ha)

If the label indicates 1.5 L/ha and the area is 0.7 ha: Total product = 1.5 × 0.7 = 1.05 L If the sprayer has a capacity of 350 L and works at a flow rate of 300 L/ha, it can treat the area in a single pass. FitoCalc automatically performs this calculation based on the area, dose, and spray volume.

3. Calculation by concentration (mL/100 L or %)

When the dose is indicated as a concentration—for example, 50 mL/100 L—you can easily calculate the amount needed for your tank. Example for a 200 L tank: Factor = Tank volume ÷ 100 = 200 ÷ 100 = 2 Product to add = 50 mL × 2 = 100 mL Concentrations in % (m/v) can also be converted to mL/L or g/L. After converting the concentration to a dose per hectare, you can enter this value into FitoCalc to automatically calculate the total amount of product and water required.

4. Adjusting the spray volume

In many cases, you can adjust the volume of water (L/ha) to improve coverage, while maintaining the same dose of product per hectare. Example: Recommended dose: 2 L/ha Usual volume: 400 L/ha If you want to work with 300 L/ha, keep the 2 L/ha — just adjust the water. FitoCalc automatically recalculates the product values and the number of tanks.

5. Essential best practices

• Always read the label and check that the crop and target are authorized. • Use appropriate measuring tools (measuring cups, scales). • Calibrate the sprayer regularly. • Avoid mixing products without confirming compatibility on the label. • Record all applications on the farm. • Consult technical support whenever necessary.

Fundamental Formulas

1. Total Product

Total Product (L or kg) = (Dose × Area) / 10,000

where Dose is in L/ha or kg/ha and Area in m²

2. Total Spray Volume

Total Spray (L) = (Spray Rate × Area) / 10,000

where Spray Rate is in L/ha and Area in m²

3. Number of Tanks

Number of Tanks = Total Spray / Tank Capacity

4. Product per Tank

Product per Tank = Total Product / Number of Tanks

Practical Example

Data:

  • Area to treat: 5,000 m² (0.5 ha)
  • Product dose: 1.5 L/ha
  • Spray rate: 300 L/ha
  • Tank capacity: 200 L

Calculations:

  1. Total Product = (1.5 × 5,000) / 10,000 = 0.75 L
  2. Total Spray = (300 × 5,000) / 10,000 = 150 L
  3. Number of Tanks = 150 / 200 = 0.75
  4. Product per Tank = 0.75 / 0.75 = 1.0 L

Important Points

  • ✓Always check the recommended doses on the product label
  • ✓Do not exceed the maximum permitted doses
  • ✓Adjust the spray volume according to the crop type and equipment
  • ✓Record all applications for control and traceability
  • ✓If in doubt, consult a qualified technician
